“A name is more than a word, It is something which has meaning and importance to us
And it was chosen for him/her from every other name.”
A Naming Ceremony is a non religious alternative to a Baptism and can be conducted for any one. They are popular for babies and toddlers, but can be for an adolescence or adult. Naming Ceremonies are relatively modern and are a wonderful way for couples to have the formality of a ceremony without the religious content.
Naming Ceremonies can be done on the child’s first birthday or just after their birth. They are personalised ceremonies, unique and different, officially welcoming the new child into a loving family circle.
A step child or adopted child can also be welcomed and other children in the family can be named, if not done previously. The process of naming links a child with its family and cultural background and can reflect the diverse religious background of the parents, if required. Some children’s names are selected for their particular meaning.
It is a tradition for the parents to select other people involved in the duty of care for the child’s wellbeing, such as Guardians, Mentors, Godparents or Grandparents, who they know will take a personal interest in guiding the child as they grow to adulthood.
I present a beautiful Certificate on the day to the parents for their child as a keepsake, including a Commemorative copy of your ceremony in a lovely presentation folder as a memento. Family members who participate in the ceremony as Guardians, etc, also receive a Certificate. I encourage other family members to be part of the ceremony by doing a reading.
Naming Ceremonies can be symbolized by lighting candles, releasing balloons, tree planting, wish boxes or rose petals—are some of the things that can be included in the ceremony.
I will select a complimentary gift and present it to the child, as a souvenir of the day.
Note: Sometimes a Naming Ceremony can be conducted as part of a Wedding Ceremony.
