The first document you need to complete is the “Notice of Intended Marriage” or NIM as it is more widely referred to which can be filled out 18 months before the marriage but no less than 1 month and 1 day before the wedding date. The document costs $150 to lodge with me and is already included in the cost of the fees.
If you are overseas - I will send the NIM to you and explain how to complete it; you get it signed by the official parties and fax it back to me in Australia - the date I receive it, is the lodgement date . The NIM can also be obtained from the Australian High Commission, Australian Embassy or online at www.ag.gov.au.
You will require different documentation depending on your circumstances and all documents must be in English, or have been translated to English.
